On April 18th, National Development and Reform Commission approved the feasibility study report on Chengdu new airport project, signifying that Chengdu new airport has been completed all the approval processes.

　　Chengdu new airport plans to build 6 airport runways and terminals covering an area of 1.26 million square meters to satisfy the demand of annual passenger throughput of 90 million in the long term. While in this phrase the project is designed to meet the demand of annual passenger throughput of 40 million, 0.7 million tons of freight, and lands and taking off of 320,000 airplanes, which will construct 3 runways, including 2 vertical ones and 1 horizontal one, terminals covering an area of 600,000 square meters and relevant supporting facilities.

　　Chengdu new airport is the largest civilian Transportation hub airport project during the 13th Five-Year Plan period with the total investment of 71.864 billion yuan. The projet will drive the investment on corresponding projects of 300 billion yuan with significant driving functions, outstanding economic and social benefits. The project will exert significant influence on promoting investment, stabilizing economic growth, consolidating and strengthening the position of Chengdu as the No. 4 in China in terms of airlines, creating national-level international aviation hub, accelerating to construct comprehensive transportation hub in Western China, and promoting the joint development of the Yangtze River Economic Belt and the Silk Road Economic Belt.

　　In May, 2011, Sichuan has initiated the site selection for Chengdu new airport. In June, 2013, Civil Aviation Administration of China officially approved Lujia, Jianyang as the site of this new airport. In January, 2015, the State Council and the Military Commission of the Central Commission of the CPC released documents and agreed to establish Chengdu new airport project. In March, 2016, Ministery of Environmental Protection approved “Environmental Influence Report of Chengdu New Airport”.
