Wei Hong Met First Secretary of State and Chancellor of the Exchequer of Britain

  On the afternoon of September 24th, Mr. Wei Hong, vice secretary of Sichuan Provincial Committee of the CPC and governor of Sichuan Provincial People’s Government, in Chengdu met Mr. George Osborne, First Secretary of State and Chancellor of the Exchequer of Britain.
Mr. Wei Hong extended sincere welcome to the visit of Mr. George Osborne. He mentioned that in recent years, the relationship between Britain and China enjoyed sound momentum and the cooperation between Britain and Sichuan had been strengthened comprehensively in all fields. He hoped that Mr. Osborne could deliver his impression and opinions of Sichuan to British government and the public in order to promote deeper cooperation and exchanges. He apprised Mr. Osborne for his understanding of relationship between Britain and China and that between Britain and Sichuan. Mr. Wei Hong was inspired deeply and proposed to work together to promote mutual and win-win development.
  
  Mr. Osborne mentioned that he had been Chengdu over two decades ago and felt that Chengdu had not so many contacts with more developed region in Eastern China. But now, Chengdu had been the most kernel part in the successful stories of Chinese economic development. Beneficial from direct flights, the distance between Sichuan and Britain had been closer and Sichuan had been an important door for Britain and China to strengthen exchange and cooperation comprehensively. Britain would become the best partner for China and for Sichuan in Western world. We should work jointly.

  Ms. Barbara Janet Woodward, British Ambassador to China, Mr. Tang Liangzhi, Mayor of Chengdu Municipal People's Government, Mr. Luo Qiang, Secretary General of Sichuan Provincial People's Government, and other responsible officials from provincial departments, also attended the meeting.
