Two Giant Pandas have been Chosen as presents to Macau by Chinese Central Government

      On March 31, reporters learned from Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding that pandas which would be given to Macau as presents have been chosen after rigorous screening, including a male giant panda called “Ya Lin” and a female giant panda named “Shu Rong”from the Research Base.

      The giant panda selection process started in March this year. After a pre-screening, two pairs were picked out as candidates. To make the final decision, recently Chen Haifan, Macau SAR Government Secretary for Administration, led a delegation to Chengdu. On March 30, a conference was held at Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding in order to make the final decision on which to be sent to Macau as presents by the central government. Delegates and experts made comprehensive assessments based on the test of five aspects including age, physical health, behavioral and mental health, reproduction, and genetic information. Confirmed by the Macao SAR and Macau Affairs Office of the State Council, ultimately pedigree numbers726 and 667 were chosen as present pandas to Macau.

      Those two giant pandas are outstanding in all respects. “Ya Lin”, the male giant panda, which was born on August 24, 2008 and has a particularly large black eye, is strong and sturdy, smart and obedient. “Shu Rong”, the female giant panda, which was born on July 5, 2007, is a rounded, lovely, lively and docile one with strong adaptability. Both of them are 110 kg currently. Before shipped to Macau, they will be sent to the quarantine field of Chengdu Research Base and go through a 30-day quarantine. During this period, together with Macau, Chengdu Research Base will finish the quarantine work according to related requirements. It is expected that “Ya Lin” and “Shu Rong” will bid farewell to Chengdu and get on a special plane to Macau in early May.

      Locomotives Made in Ziyang Will Be Shipped to Thailand from Yibin Harbor

      On March 31, two locomotives were successfully lifted on board at a kiloton heavy cargo berth in Yibin Port, and then they would be shipped and exported to Thailand after transshipping in Shanghai. Made by China’s CSR Ziyang Locomotive Works, this is the first batch of locomotives to be delivered to Thailand. Transferred from Yibin Harbor, it is also the first order of heavy cargo this year which connects the “One Belt and One Road”, namely, the economic development belt.

      Liu Jie, assistant to the chairman of Sichuan Yibin Port LLC, introduced that the two Cargo-passenger diesel locomotives were 21 meters long and nearly 5 meters high. They would be shipped to Shanghai about 12 days later and then transported to Thailand. “Yibin is the first city along the Yangtze River; it is located at the crossing of the Yangtze River Economic Belt and the Silk Road Economy belt. Yibin Port heavy cargo berths were put into operation, providing reliable conversion reloading logistics equipment for manufacturing industry in western regions.”

      Currently, on the basis of cooperating with Shuifu Port and Wuhan Port and opening domestic and international shipping route, Yibin Port is accelerating it space to implement the strategy of cooperating with a cluster of ports along the middle and lower reaches of Yangtze River. Recently, Yibin Port will cooperate with Nanjing Port and open up a container river and ocean combined transportation shipping route via Nanjing Port to Bohai Sea. At the same time, Yibin will start to propel the bulk cargo berths construction project, according to which three berths will be built, including a grain berths, two ore berths, with a designed annual capacity of 5.6 million tons and a total investment of 830 million yuan.
