Finland Is Willing to Join Hands with Chengdu and Build a “Beautiful Chengdu”
Updated:2015.01.19

Having Felt the driving force of development in Sichuan and hoped to create more opportunities for cooperation between Finland and Sichuan, in the afternoon of January 14, the President of the Finnish Social Democratic Party, Finance Minister Antti Rinne ended his first visit to Sichuan. Before his departure he left with a wonderful wish that Sichuan could use the Finnish advanced energy saving technology and Finland was willing to join hands with Chengdu and create a “beautiful Chengdu”.

Rinne Proposed to Implement the“beautiful Chengdu” Project

Unfortunately, in those two days when Rinne visited Sichuan, it happened to be full of haze. Finland is known for beautiful environment and energy saving technologies. When confronted with the bad weather conditions of Chengdu, Rinne saw there were great needs for Finnish technology. In talks with the leadership of Chengdu, he proposed Sichuan to follow the “beautiful Beijing” project  carried out jointly by both Finland and Beijing and implement similar project like “beautiful Chengdu”. Thus Chengdu could improve environmental quality and reduce fog and haze. This proposal received a positive response in Chengdu.

Carried out by Finland and China, “Beautiful Beijing” is an environmental project for Beijing’s air pollution. It was launched in the end of June 2013, in order to improve Beijing's air quality with the help of Finnish clean technology research. Rinne was convinced that Finland's advanced technology will exert positive influence on promoting the construction of ecological civilization and reducing environmental pollution.

During this visit, Rinne not only brought with relevant Finnish enterprises to exchange ideas with various departments in Chengdu, but also actively played a “salesman” role. In particular, He vigorously introduced Finnish geothermal technology.

Finland is located in Northern Europe. The annual temperature is very low, so Finland has unique experience in terms of improving effectiveness. Rinne said that the use of geothermal energy for heating buildings could both improve energy efficiency and reduce environmental pollution. Finland had special experience in this area and thus looked forward to witness more enterprises in Sichuan could cooperate with Finnish ones.

Rinne Urged to Open Chengdu - Helsinki Nonstop Flights

On January 13, in Floraland of Chengdu Wenjiang, where settled the world’s second Christmas Paradise, Rinne, together with government and commercial representatives he leaded, attended the opening ceremony of the first Sino-Finnish Technology Creative Fashion Year—Sino-Finnish Brand Trade Festival. In this opening ceremony, there were full of Finnish elements. It not only brought together many well-known brands on sale in Finland, but also provided a series of interactive amusement equipment by Finland Lappset Group for everyone to experience. Walking in the interactive play area, Rinne and Finnish Ambassador Gu Zesen experienced the interactive football games SUTU happily.

Located in Chengdu’s Floraland, The Christmas Paradise is an important cooperation project of creation, tourism and cultural fields between Finland and China. It will be completed in 2016. In recent years, through the media of giant panda and Santa Claus, exchanges and cooperation between Finland’s Rovaniemi, Santa's hometown, continue to develop. The two cities are expected to establish friendly and cooperative relations in the near future. Rinne said: “I am glad to see more and more new cooperation established between Finland and China.”

In addition to the Christmas theme park project, nonstop flights between Chengdu and Helsinki in Finland are also worth looking forward to. Currently, the opening of nonstop flights is under intense negotiation. Rinne said Finland will spare no effort to make it happen.
