International Direct Flights Accelerate Chengdu’s Inbound Travel

     “Chengdu is the first second-tier city in China under our investment apart from Beijing, Guangzhou and Shanghai because of its great development potential.” On December 22nd, on “2014 International Direct Flight Hub City Seminar” held in Chengdu, Shen Xiaorong, manager of Chengdu and Southwestern China Area of Air France, gave higher expectations and evaluation to Chengdu creating into international direct direct hub cities and international destinations.

     Tang Yiwei, manager of aviation marketing of Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport Co. Ltd., offered a group of data, saying that by now, Chengdu Shuangliu Airport has open 240 international and domestic air routes, including 78 international and regional flights (26 regular direct flights), and 173 cities as flight destinations at home and abroad, becoming 4th largest aviation transport hub next to Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou.

     The opening and increasing of international direct flights have initiated the channels to Chengdu for foreign tourists to Chengdu. Therefore, how to attract foreign tourists to Chengdu has been an urgent problem after the air transportation becomes more convenient. In recent years, China's inbound tourism has declined. Faced with the downturn of inbound tourism market, what should Sichuan tourism with numerous special tourism resources do to solve the problem? On the seminar, experts from all walks gave advice. Mr. Joao Manuel Costa Antunes, former chairman of Pacific Asia Travel Association, was optimistic about Sichuan promoting Southern Silk Road Travel in his speech. But he thought that numerous travel resources in Chengdu should be integrated and interacted, and Chengdu should integrate all concerning industries into a complete travel golden thread. In City Direct City Marketing, apart from initial layer service provided by the airports and airlines to passengers, they should also consider how to improve convenient land transportation from the airports to scenic spots. The scenic spots and hotels should highlight their features and enhance charming. The travel agencies should design different routes to satisfy different needs. Voices from tourism were offering sincere advice on creating Chengdu as international tourism destination.

     All representatives were generally optimistic about Chengdu’s even Sichuan’s inbound travel market. According to statistics, from January to November, Sichuan has received 2.2631 million inbound visitors a year-on-year growth of 16.1%.
